Another Year of Progress: Main Street Continues Building Moment

Last Updated 7/22/2026Posted in News

Last night, the Nevada MO Main Street Alliance shared its annual update with the Nevada City Council, highlighting another year of growth, collaboration, and investment in our historic downtown.

As we continue building on the foundation established during our first year, our focus remains the same: strengthening downtown Nevada through the nationally recognized Main Street approach of Design, Promotion, Organization, and Economic Vitality.

Here are a few highlights from the past year.

Investing in Downtown Businesses

One of the year's biggest milestones was the work of our Economic Vitality Committee, which successfully launched the Façade Improvement Grant Program.

Supported by funding from the City of Nevada and a PHIL Grant awarded through the Community Foundation, the Economic Vitality Committee launched the Façade Improvement Grant Program, receiving twenty applications from downtown businesses during its first grant cycle.

After a thorough review by the Economic Vitality Committee and the Board of Directors, ten projects were selected for funding. Together, these projects represent over $63,000 in façade improvements, with approximately $24,000 in matching grant funds to be reimbursed to participating property owners upon completion of their projects.

Enhancing Downtown's Appeal

Our Design Committee remained focused on enhancing the appearance of downtown Nevada through projects that improve the experience for everyone who visits our historic district. This year, the committee continued work on the historic caboose restoration project while also coordinating seasonal flower pot displays around the Square.

These efforts help create an attractive, welcoming downtown environment that encourages residents and visitors to spend time exploring, shopping, dining, and enjoying all that our community has to offer.

Promoting Downtown

One of our ongoing goals is telling the story of downtown Nevada. Throughout the year, our website, social media, blog, downtown calendar, and business directory have helped showcase local businesses, celebrate community accomplishments, promote events, and encourage residents and visitors to experience everything our downtown has to offer.

This spring, our Promotion Committee hosted the Art on Main Street: Next Generation Art Auction, partnering with local schools, businesses, teachers, and young artists. Student artwork was displayed throughout downtown before the live auction, encouraging visitors to explore local businesses while showcasing the incredible talent of our area's youth. The event raised more than $900 helping support and inspire the next generation of local creatives.

Looking Ahead

While we've accomplished a great deal during the past year, we're just getting started.

The Nevada MO Main Street Alliance remains committed to working alongside the City of Nevada, Vernon County, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to create new opportunities for investment, revitalization, and economic growth throughout our historic downtown.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who has invested their time, talents, resources, and support in our mission. Together, we're building momentum and creating a vibrant downtown that our entire community can be proud of.
