Hoops Heat Up Main Street: Community and Competition Shine with Legends Takeover League

Legends Takeover League Brings Big-Time Basketball Energy to Nevada

Downtown Nevada is home to something special on Sunday afternoons—an adult basketball league that blends competition, community, and cutting-edge technology. The Legends Takeover League (LTL), founded in early 2024, is quickly becoming a favorite for players and fans alike.

From Vision to Reality

After decades of playing in different leagues, founder Justin Goodwin realized something was missing. “Most leagues felt uninspired—you pay a fee, get one game a week, and that’s it,” he explained. With over 40 years of experience in the game, he set out to build something better: a league he himself would be excited to play in. The result is the Legends Takeover League, a program designed not just to organize games but to create an experience.

A League Built for Players

The LTL 5v5 league features two divisions—Nevada Legends League and Carthage Legends League—running back-to-back seasons. Each team plays two games per week during the six-week regular season, followed by a championship tournament in Week 7.

But what really sets the LTL apart are the extras. Thanks to partnerships with Pixellot and Sportsvisio, every game is recorded with state-of-the-art motion-tracking cameras, then uploaded into an app where players can rewatch highlights, track their stats, and view rankings—just like the pros. From standings and badges to season and career stats, the league offers an experience usually reserved for professional athletes.

Growing Beyond the Court

The LTL isn’t stopping with 5v5. New programs are already on the horizon, including a FIBA-style 3v3 league in 2025, multi-round three-point contests (the first one happening in Nevada on October 26), and even benefit tournaments that give back to the community. Expansion plans also aim to bring the league to Arkansas and Kansas in the near future.

Open to the Community

Games are held at the Nevada Community Center and the Carthage Youth Activity Center, and spectators are always welcome.

In Nevada, games typically run 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 or 5:30 p.m. on Sundays. This Sunday is a bye week, then the regular season wraps up on October 5. The single-elimination championship tournament will take place on October 12, with games expected to start at 1:00 p.m. that day.

To stay up to date, follow the league on Facebook at facebook.com/LEGENDSTAKEOVERLEAGUE or visit the website at LegendsTakeoverLeague.square.site. You can sign up, check out the rules, view past champions, or contact the league about bringing LTL to your area, benefit tournaments, and more.

Community Support and Impact

From the very beginning, the league has been embraced by the community. Local partners like the Nevada Community Center team (led by Richard Brockman) and the Carthage YMCA staff (Caleb Stiles and Jonathon Roberts) have been instrumental in helping the league grow. Participation has already jumped from just 4 teams in Season 1 to 12 teams in Season 5.

For the founder, the proudest moment isn’t a buzzer-beater or a trophy—it’s seeing his vision come alive on the court. “Watching players, families, and fans enjoy the league together, and seeing it grow every season—that’s the real win.”

Looking Ahead

With more teams, new formats, and regional expansion on the way, the Legends Takeover League is set to become more than just a basketball league. It’s shaping up to be a community hub for competition, connection, and growth—right here in the heart of our Main Street district.
