Downtown Grows Stronger with The Friendship House
Friendship House Mental Health
The name of this new business on the North Side of the square is exactly what it says it is. With goals and services that reach far beyond a typical counseling session, Friendship House Mental Health is looking to be a good community partner, here and ready to assist in filling in the gaps of care that many patients find in this area.
Per the owner, “Each clinician in this practice holds over 10 years of experience in working with both case management services and counseling services. They also provide support with additional supports such as assistance to court appearances, doctor office visits, and dental visits for the littles that we serve. Our aim is to be both a support system and a stabilizing factor in our clients’ healing journey.”
With mental health becoming much more of a priority and focus, this is a great asset to have in the Nevada community. When asked what brought the business to the downtown area, owner Christine Whitworth said that “we work with the Vernon County Victims Advocate, some with probation and parole, as well as multiple instances with the Juvenile Office, as well as Division of Family Services. Moving to a location closer to the court's offices was a significant benefit. Bill McCaffree Law Firm was the best supporter for this move, and allowing us to rent office space below his practice.” (Another great example of businesses working together to make the downtown area a better place.)
There is much to be excited about with this practice finding its home on the square in Nevada. With better visibility to the public, hopefully, more Vernon County citizens can know these services are available and get the care that they need.
With a load of Accreditations/Certifications including: Master of Science, National Certified Counselor, National Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Substance Qualified Counselor Supervisor, Certified Reciprocal Drug and Alcohol Counselor, DBT Trained, prolonged exposure, EMDR, and certificates, there are so many different services they can help with.
A few of the services that they offer are mental health and substance use disorders, prolonged exposure, EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, cognitive behavior therapies, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, as well as a strong focus on working with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders.
Friendship House Mental Health is also a supporter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) and has a member of the organization who works within the practice to help serve and protect our local children who might be caught up in abusive situations.
Mental Health is such an important topic in today’s world. Finding professionals who are willing to not only address but also support all areas of a patient’s journey is such an intangible resource for the community. They are excited this year to continue to grow their business as well as to form and grow their relationships within the community. Per the owner, they “LOVE what we do and what we stand for, we hope that our clients know that we are here to support them in their growth and healing. We want to be a positive factor in health and growth to all we serve.”
